 Dates to Remember

FoC School Store Week (See schedule below)                     October 17-21

Parent Teacher Conferences, Early Release, 11:15              October 25 & November 1

Holiday, No School                                                                    November 11

From the Principal

Last Thursday, 5th graders led us in our October All School Meeting. Fifth graders performed a skit about “Hallway Expectations,” our kindergarteners performed Nursery Rhymes, and we read a story about fall and leaf collecting! It was a highlight of the week and it’s wonderful to be together as a community.

As you may be aware, staffing issues have been challenging during the past couple of years. In an effort to resolve some of these challenges, we traded three unfilled Special Education TA positions for a full time professional Special Education Teacher. This allows us to add a teacher, and redistribute and reduce caseloads, increasing the amount of time teachers have available to support our students. I’m excited about this shift for practical and philosophical reasons and look forward to thinking about the opportunities that this shift will bring. We welcome Heather Rich as our new full-time Special Education Teacher. You may know her, as she has worked in our school wearing different hats, most recently as a Literacy TA. She is wonderful! Christina DeCourcy has shifted into our full-time Literacy TA position.

We are looking for a couple of volunteers to support our library. We are still looking for a Library Tech Assistant (should you know anyone),  and in the meantime it would be helpful to have a couple of parents sorting library books, reshelving books and maintaining order within the space. Please let me know if you are interested.

On October 31, the K-2 children will participate in our annual Cutler School Halloween Parade along the driveway at 9AM. Please note this is purely optional and if you have any questions or concerns please contact me. You are invited, with your cameras of course, to line the “parade route” and cheer us on! We stress the wonderful world of “childhood pretend.” No costumes representing violence or weapons of any kind are allowed. Please send your child/ren to school dressed in as much of his/her/their costume as is comfortably possible. Please send a change of clothing as all costumes will come off immediately following the parade. Please label EVERYTHING!  This is a weather dependent event and if it is raining, the event will be canceled.

Teal Pumpkin Season Returns!

Many Halloween treats contain milk, eggs, nuts, soy, wheat, or sesame and aren’t safe for children with those food allergies. Each year, the Teal Pumpkin Project® raises awareness of food allergies and creates a safer, more inclusive Halloween for all trick-or-treaters by making non-food treats available in addition to candy. Adding your address to the Teal Pumpkin Project Map and placing a teal pumpkin on your doorstep signals to trick-or-treaters that you participate in the Project by offering non-food treats in a separate bowl. You can now add your Teal Pumpkin events to the map as well, from Trunk or Treats to community parties!

CVS Pharmacy® is partnering with FARE to help support the food allergy community and will have Teal Pumpkin Project-approved, non-food trinkets at approximately 4,000 locations and on CVS.com. And, as always, Teal Pumpkin Project resources and downloadables for all your Halloween needs are available on our Teal Pumpkin Project headquarters. Happy hauntings!

**Due to the continued labor shortage, we have been unsuccessful in our attempts to

secure enough transportation to restore this program to its pre-covid size. We are disappointed we will be unable to offer this program to the middle school this year. We

will continue our attempts to bring back this program, in its entirety, when we can secure enough transportation. Thank you for your understanding and patience.**
