June 16, 2021

Today is a day to celebrate!

It has taken a tremendous amount of dedication on each and everyone’s part to make it to this last day of school, and it really is something to be celebrated. I think we are all looking forward to the fall, a time when school will look much more like we are used to and so many of this year's challenges will be behind us.

There are a few shifts and moves next year as we think about teaching assignments. Your child’s teacher assignment for the fall can be found on the third term report card published in Aspen after school ends today.

First grade: Mrs. Greene and Mrs. Pinciaro

Second grade: Ms. Bowker and Ms. Farrell

Third grade: Mrs. Hanson and a new teacher to be announced this summer

Fourth grade: Mrs. Anderson, Mrs. Duffy, and Ms. Valentine

Fifth grade: Mrs. Graham and Ms. Penta

Mrs. Adamik will remain at Cutler next year but is transitioning to a new teacher leader position in our school and will be our instructional coach, working in all classrooms throughout the year. We are excited to have her many years of experience benefiting all of our students.

Today marks the last day for a few of us at Cutler School. Joanne Leary and Kendall Clarke will be retiring this year, and today marks their last official day at school. We wish them the best as they transition to a different daily pace with much more family time!

Cutler is a learning community. We are learners of all ages, and I will continue to learn as part of this community in my new role in the district next year, and for that I am grateful. I cannot thank you enough for your support and partnership over the years. It has been a joy to watch your children learn and grow here at Cutler School.

Sincerely,
Jenn

Feelings Friday

I’m excited to share that the Feelings Friday announcements our fifth graders have been doing have influenced some of our younger students to want to do the same!   With the support of his classmate, Sam Bixby and friend Henry Waddell, Hunter Bilenchi shared a mindful exercise he called “Mirror-Mirror.”  He did an amazing job describing the technique- I encourage you to ask your children about it and the other positive coping strategies our fifth graders have been sharing with the whole school!

Health Office News
Please remember to check your child for ticks after outdoor activities. Ticks can transmit Lyme and other diseases. Information on Lyme disease can be found here on the CDC website: http://www.cdc.gov/lyme/

Avoid Direct Contact with Ticks
Avoid wooded and brushy areas with high grass and leaf litter.
• Walk in the center of trails.
Repel Ticks on Skin and Clothing
• Use repellent that contains 20 percent or more DEET, picaridin, or IR3535 on exposed skin for protection that lasts several hours.
o Always follow product instructions. Parents should apply this product to their children, avoiding hands, eyes, and mouth.
• Use products that contain permethrin on clothing. Treat clothing and gear, such as boots, pants, socks and tents with products containing 0.5% permethrin. It remains protective through several washings. Pretreated clothing is available and may be protective longer.
• The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has an online tool to help you select the repellent that is best for you and your family.
Find and Remove Ticks from Your Body
• Bathe or shower as soon as possible after coming indoors (preferably within 2 hours) to wash off and more easily find ticks that are crawling on you.
• Conduct a full-body tick check using a hand-held or full-length mirror to view all parts of your body upon return from tick-infested areas. Parents should check their children for ticks under the arms, in and around the ears, inside the belly button, behind the knees, between the legs, around the waist, and especially in their hair.
Examine gear and pets
Ticks can ride into the home on clothing and pets, then attach to a person later, so carefully examine pets, coats, and day packs.
• Tumble dry clothes in a dryer on high heat for 10 minutes to kill ticks on dry clothing  If the clothes are damp, additional time may be needed.
