From the Principal

Dear Cutler Families,

Yes, today is about the dreariest day of the year, but it is also Pi day! I always loved Pi day as a classroom teacher and would enjoy having students recite as many digits as they were able (3.14….), create circles and calculate the area, as well as enjoy our favorite pies! I’m already thinking about how to incorporate some fun at Cutler next year, but for today, enjoy a piece of pie!

Yesterday during our Professional Learning Day there was a lot going on. Classroom teachers and special educators looked at writing progressions from kindergarten through fifth grade in order to learn more about how the writing at different grade levels reflects the developmental stages of our students. Teachers were able to plan with one another, and our afternoon was spent creating materials for targeted, small group interventions including generating fluency passages and creating games to use in our classrooms in order to reinforce discrete literacy skills.

This morning it was fun to be in a 5th grade PE class with Mrs. McCue. There is so much going on in there, and cup stacking is one of the fun, collaborative activities they were engaged with.

I hope everyone is safe as we anticipate high winds and power outages.

Take Care,

Juliana

CORI and fingerprinting information:  With several field trips on the horizon, there have been a lot of questions re: CORI and fingerprinting.

  • CORI is required for anyone volunteering in the classroom/school.  CORIs must be filled out in person (either at the office or at Central), and are valid for 3 years.
  • Fingerprinting is required for anyone chaperoning on field trips or working one-on-one or in small groups with students.  Fingerprints must be scheduled with a private company, Identogo, and are valid for 7 years
  • Both CORI and fingerprinting can take anywhere from 2-10 days to be processed.  Just because you have had your fingerprints taken does not mean you are ready to chaperone.
  • Once they are processed through Central office, your information will be updated in Aspen.  You can log in and check your Aspen account for your CORI and fingerprint status.

If you have any questions about Kindergarten Registration, please contact the Family & Community Engagement Liaison & Registrar, Jen Caufield.

From LibraryMedia Tech: Our library/tech classes and many grades are using Seesaw, a secure online journal where students can document and reflect on what they are learning in class. Seesaw provides a safe and creative way for your child to document their learning through photos, videos, drawings and voice recordings, while practicing digital literacy skills in a moderated environment.

You can download the Seesaw app, or use Seesaw.me, and connect to your student’s account to view and comment on their work in real time. If you have any questions or need your student’s Family Invitation, please contact Linda Mastrianni at l.mastrianni@hwschools.net. She will also be available for Seesaw help and information at our Open House.
