Upcoming Important Dates:

School Store is back!
Students will have an opportunity to shop from our school store (on a cart) this Friday, May 28. School store is a chance for students to buy pencils, erasers, and all things small and fun. Please send your child in with no more than $3 in small bills and coins. Students who do not have funds on Friday will be given a voucher to buy a small item, so all students may enjoy the one opportunity to visit the school store this year. The store will be on a cart and will visit classrooms via their exterior doors Friday morning, so the store will come to them, no need to look for it at arrival. Thank you to Nancy Waddell for overseeing the store and bringing it to students this year!

Fifth Grade Information
Our fifth graders are preparing for their next steps beyond Cutler School. There will be a parent webinar with Craig Hovey, Principal of MRMS, on Tuesday, May 25th at 7pm. 5th-grade families will receive the link directly from MRMS. 5th Graders will visit MRMS on Tuesday, June 8th. Fifth-grade week activities are being planned and we are thrilled to announce that a modified version of our Fifth Grade Leadership Day will be planned for Friday, June 11.

Health Office News

Please remember to check your child for ticks after outdoor activities. Ticks can transmit Lyme and other diseases. Information on Lyme disease can be found here on the CDC website: http://www.cdc.gov/lyme/

Avoid Direct Contact with Ticks
Avoid wooded and brushy areas with high grass and leaf litter.
• Walk in the center of trails.
Repel Ticks on Skin and Clothing
• Use repellent that contains 20 percent or more DEET, picaridin, or IR3535 on exposed skin for protection that lasts several hours.
o Always follow product instructions. Parents should apply this product to their children, avoiding hands, eyes, and mouth.
• Use products that contain permethrin on clothing. Treat clothing and gear, such as boots, pants, socks and tents with products containing 0.5% permethrin. It remains protective through several washings. Pretreated clothing is available and may be protective longer.
• The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has an online tool to help you select the repellent that is best for you and your family.
Find and Remove Ticks from Your Body
• Bathe or shower as soon as possible after coming indoors (preferably within 2 hours) to wash off and more easily find ticks that are crawling on you.
• Conduct a full-body tick check using a hand-held or full-length mirror to view all parts of your body upon return from tick-infested areas. Parents should check their children for ticks under the arms, in and around the ears, inside the belly button, behind the knees, between the legs, around the waist, and especially in their hair.
Examine gear and pets
Ticks can ride into the home on clothing and pets, then attach to a person later, so carefully examine pets, coats, and day packs.
• Tumble dry clothes in a dryer on high heat for 10 minutes to kill ticks on dry clothing  If the clothes are damp, additional time may be needed.

Calling all musicians!

25th Annual Melody Miles Fundraiser May 26 - 31, 2021

We are excited about the Hamilton-Wenham Friends of the Arts (FOTA) 25th Annual Melody Miles fun run/walk! This year our race is virtual, allowing you six days in May to run, walk, or dance your way through any 5k or 5mi route in your neighborhood (or on your treadmill).

Let’s make some music!

We have always been about fun, family, and music, and hope this year will still be the same. We will be releasing a YouTube playlist of local singers and musicians for runners/walkers to enjoy during their run.

Details:

  • 1-3 minutes of music/song appropriate for listeners of all age

  • Video format, horizontal orientation is best for playback on YouTube

  • Send submissions to info@hwfota.org

  • Unfortunately, we can’t guarantee all pieces will make the final playlist

We look forward to seeing what you come up with!

Thank you!

P.S. Cutler School team is currently #2 in the participation rankings... think we can pull ahead?

Register to run/walk or donate to FOTA as a Melody Maker online at: www.melodymiles.org Please reach out to Lexie Riordan info@hwfota.org with any questions. We look forward to running with you!
