Dates to Remember:
From the Principal
Dear Cutler Families,
This year one of our school goals has been around “belonging.” One outcome of this work is that a group of teachers have been meeting on Wednesday mornings to plan ways to connect our community in deeper ways and to address some of the social and emotional shifts we have seen since covid. As you may be aware, our teachers are trained in the Responsive Classroom approach to classroom management. Within this approach there are school structures in order to establish common language and expectations, and we have decided to move forward introducing this to our classrooms, as well as introducing at All School Meeting.
Before February vacation, teachers read the story, I am One by Peter Reynolds, in their classrooms. This is about how one person can make a difference in taking a step toward a better world. Students were then introduced to the Cutler CARES acronym (Cooperation, Assertion, Responsibility, Empathy, Self-Control) as our new school values, and baseline for common language.
At our All School Meeting on Feb. 14, our 5th graders presented a reader’s theater of the book Stone Soup, in order to introduce cooperation. Students generated ideas of ways to be cooperative in the school. During our upcoming All School Meetings, we will introduce the remaining values. We were also introduced to “give me 5”, which is a strategy for asking kids to stop talking, and to put their eyes on the speaker. Try it with them at home.
We look forward to continuing our work of teaching the Cutler CARES motto, and supporting our students with common language, shared expectations and a sense of their responsibility in making our community stronger!
Wishing you a wonderful week!
Warmly,
Juliana

Guidelines for Dismissal or Reasons to Keep Your Child Home from School:
In an effort to minimize the spread of contagious illness, the Hamilton Wenham Regional School District has developed the following guidelines for determining whether your child needs to be sent home or stay home from school: Fever (elevated temperature of 100.0 or higher). Must remain home until fever-free for 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medicines, such as Acetaminophen (Tylenol) or Ibuprofen (Motrin or Advil).
Vomiting or diarrhea. May return to school 24 hours after the last episode.
Generalized rash of unknown origin. Must be evaluated by a doctor and provide a note for re-entry into school.
Live head lice. Must be treated at home, and then re-checked by the school nurse, preferably with a parent/guardian present, upon return to school.
Red or pink itchy eyes with crusty and/or green/yellow drainage. May return to school when there is no drainage and/or on medication for 24 hours.
Strep throat. May return 12-24 hours after beginning antibiotic treatment and feeling better.
Uncontrollable cough or symptoms that make your child unable to function in the classroom.
Please refer to the mass.gov website for COVID guidelines:
This list is a guideline. The School Nurse reserves the right to dismiss students who, in their professional opinion, are possibly contagious or are too ill to be in school.

Dates to Remember:
From the Principal
Dear Cutler Families,
I hope you all enjoyed the spring weekend, yet have your shovels close. It looks like tomorrow will be heavy, wet snow. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for a cozy day at home with hot chocolate and my sweet greyhound Nellie by my feet.
Last week on Wednesday we celebrated Global Play Day and it was a great day for the children. I was reminded of the benefits of uninterrupted time to engage in a board game, set up blocks, build, create, problem solve, negotiate and engage with wild imaginations. I wish we had more time to do this, while turning off the screens, and we were all grateful for the day! I encourage you to find time within your families to engage in play in an uninterrupted way!
Wednesday is Valentine’s Day, which is a very happy day in an elementary school. We are asking that you keep the candy home, but children love to exchange Valentines. We encourage hand-made valentines, and including one for every child in the classroom.
Wishing you all a wonderful week, and a wonderful February vacation, whether you’re heading north, heading south, or enjoying the beauty of this incredible place, the north shore, which we get to call home!
Warmly,
Juliana
From Ann Creilson, Adjustment Counselor:
Our school wide food drive to celebrate our 100th day of school was a huge success! Because of your generous donations, we dropped off almost 400 pounds of food and toiletries at Acord. It was an amazing outpouring of support for them and our community. Thank you so much!

Dear Cutler Families,
We have just finished our midyear assessment period. Teachers will be sending home the assessment results this Friday in backpacks. Please look for the letter, and if you have any followup questions, you are welcome to reach out to the classroom teacher.
Additionally, Kindergarten report cards are available in ASPEN on Friday. When you log in to access the report card, please also make sure all contact information is up to date. Thank you!
On Wednesday we are excited to participate in Global Play Day. Teachers may reach out about sending in board games or other materials. It was a total blast last year, and I look forward to sending photos after Wednesday.
I hope everyone has a wonderful week!
Warmly,
Juliana
