 Dates to Remember:

Feb. 12: School Store Week
Feb. 19:  School Vacation Week

From the Office:

Please check (or have your children check) Lost and Found; we are overflowing with coats, sweatshirts, hats, mittens, and gloves, and are running out of space for them.  Please remember to label your children's clothing.

From Ann Creilson, Adjustment Counselor:

As part of our 100th day of school celebration on February 6th, we will have a school wide food drive to benefit Acord, our local food pantry. Acord is located in Hamilton and offers weekly food distributions, holiday meal programs, school vacation lunch bags, nutrition education and outreach, and emergency meal assistance. The students are eager to support them and hope to collect 100 items per grade level. We will be collecting Acord’s most needed items from  Monday, January 22nd through Tuesday, February 6th and each grade level is asked to bring in items listed below. Thank you so much in advance for your help with this!

Kindergarten- Coffee, tea, hot chocolate

First Grade-  Grains and grain mixes like Rice-A-Roni, rice pilaf, quinoa, farro, couscous

Second Grade-  Canned goods like chili, hearty soups, baked beans, canned meats or fish

Third Grade-  Breakfast items like pancake mix, cereal(hot and cold), jam, syrup

Fourth Grade-  Condiments like mustard, ketchup, mayonnaise, salad dressing, soy sauce, etc.

Fifth Grade-  Paper items including paper towels, toilet paper, tissues

From the Health Office:

With the wet winter weather, we ask that all students have a spare set of clothing at school.  We do go out for recess every day, and more and more kids are coming to the nurse's office for a change of clothes.  Please send an extra set for your child, just in case they get wet and need a change.  They can keep this in their cubbies.

Hello Cutler Families,

As we all venture into the new year with the best intentions to live a healthy life, I thought it would be helpful to share some ideas for  Healthy Snacks for school.

Please keep in mind that we have students and staff in our Cutler community with life threatening food allergies, so please consult with your child’s teacher or school nurse for guidance regarding safe snacks in your child's classroom.

Wishing you all a happy and healthy new year !!

Guidelines for Dismissal or Reasons to Keep Your Child Home from School:

In an effort to minimize the spread of contagious illness, the Hamilton Wenham Regional School District has developed the following guidelines for determining whether your child needs to be sent home or stay home from school: Fever (elevated temperature of 100.0 or higher). Must remain home until fever-free for 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medicines, such as Acetaminophen (Tylenol) or Ibuprofen (Motrin or Advil).
Vomiting or diarrhea. May return to school 24 hours after the last episode.
Generalized rash of unknown origin. Must be evaluated by a doctor and provide a note for re-entry into school.
Live head lice. Must be treated at home, and then re-checked by the school nurse, preferably with a parent/guardian present, upon return to school.
Red or pink itchy eyes with crusty and/or green/yellow drainage. May return to school when there is no drainage and/or on medication for 24 hours.
Strep throat. May return 12-24 hours after beginning antibiotic treatment and feeling better.
Uncontrollable cough or symptoms that make your child unable to function in the classroom.

Please refer to the mass.gov website for COVID guidelines:

This list is a guideline. The School Nurse reserves the right to dismiss students who, in their professional opinion, are possibly contagious or are too ill to be in school.

Thank you to everyone who helped support our book fair last week, and a special thanks to our event leads, Marie Hersey & Elena Moreira, who introduced Cutler to Copper Dog and their wonderful array of titles.
Be sure to ask your children about their brush with fame last week...our Cultural Enrichment team, Caitlin Merrill and Ashley Serotta, snagged an awesome Cutler school visit and presentation from WCBV News Center 5's meteorologist, David Williams! He even recorded a clip of our Cutler kids cheering after his presentation, which will be featured on air this Tuesday morning on channel 5! So fun!!
And finally, save the date (and grab a sitter!) for our upcoming Adult Social on Friday, April 5th, being organized by Kara Webber and Mary MacGilvary!  We're looking forward to sending out all the fun details soon.

 Dates to Remember:

Jan. 23-25:  Copper Dog Book Fair
Feb. 12: School Store Week
Feb. 19:  School Vacation Week

From the Principal:

Dear Cutler Families,

I hope you all had a nice weekend. I enjoyed pond skating and am always reminded how important it is to get outside to enjoy these winters in New England…  Please remember to bundle kiddos with boots, snow pants, hats and mittens. With outdoor recess, kids need to be warm!

This past Thursday at our School Council meeting we were able to hear from Jenni Conrad, our instructional coach, about the continued implementation of CKLA, our Language Arts curriculum. Additionally, she is participating in our District math review committee and gave us an update on where we are with that process. Teachers are reviewing programs in alignment with the Massachusetts frameworks, hoping to pilot materials this spring. We have our next meeting on March 7th, and will speak directly to the coaching model.

There are lots of community events coming up. The 5th grade will present “I Have a Dream” by MLK Jr at our Wednesday All School Meeting, followed by a presentation for 5th grade parents. This is an incredibly moving speech, especially delivered by our students. On Thursday afternoon, the Friends of Cutler are sponsoring a meteorologist visit which will be very interesting.

In other news, I will get married next weekend, January 28th, and will be out the week of January 29th. Rebecca Butler is the “teacher in charge” and is available at r.butler@hwschools.net. As always, our school adjustment counselor, Ann Creilson, a.creilson@hwschools.net is also available should you have questions.

Don’t forget to pop in to the book fair this week, if you are able!

Have a great week!

Juliana

Dates to Remember:

Jan. 23-25:  Copper Dog Book Fair
Feb. 12: School Store Week
Feb. 19:  School Vacation Week

From the Principal:

Dear Cutler Families,

Snow has been the theme, from community day, to kindergartens and fifth graders sledding on the back hill. It is nice to actually have some winter! Today is also the first day of the Bradford Ski Program. Please drop off the equipment in the front lobby on Wednesday mornings as we support this wonderful program at Cutler.

On Thursday, we will have our School Council meeting at 11:35 in the conference room. School Council is made up of teachers, parents and myself. We develop school goals in alignment with the District Goals, and talk through what is going on in the school. We have a meeting this week and our Instructional Coach will present a bit about both our math and language arts curriculum. I will send along the notes from this meeting next week via News to Use, though these meetings are open, and anyone is always welcome. Our March 7th meeting will be focused specifically on the coaching model, which exists across all three elementary schools.

I hope you all have a wonderful week!

Warmly,

Juliana

5th graders and kindergarteners (Buddies!) went sledding during the first snowfall!
