From the Principal

Dear Cutler Parents,

What to Expect: Solstice Stroll

Tomorrow, Tuesday, we will have a Solstice Stroll from 4:30- 5:30. Every child has made a lantern which will be illuminated on our back playground near the gazebo. There will be hot chocolate and good cheer served. Students may drop by at any point during that hour, and are welcome to take their lantern with them when they leave. A few students will be sharing poetry at 5pm by the gazebo. We hope to light up our darkest night and bring cheer to all in this holiday season!

I want to express my tremendous gratitude to the Cutler community for your warm welcome and support this school year. I’m grateful to be leading here, at a school that I describe as a true gem. It truly feels like an extended family. I wish you all a wonderful holiday season, a safe and healthy vacation, and time to rest and rejuvenate with those you love.

We have school through Friday. It is a comfy clothes/ PJ day.  There will be an 11:15 dismissal on Friday (reminder - there is no lunch on early dismissal days; you may wish to pack a larger snack).

Best Wishes!

Juliana Schneider

From Food Services

There will be no more bagels available as an alternative lunch option starting in December. It is not a substantial lunch option and students are/will be able to choose a sun butter and jelly sandwich or a deli sandwich.

Also, the Food Services Department is looking to be more ecofriendly and has partnered with PATH Water! The cafeteria will be selling these reusable water bottles (SpongeBob and Patrick) for $5. There is even space to put a name on the bottle.

To purchase— checks can be made out to HWRSD, cash or your child can use their lunch code.

Wendy Ng, our Nutrition Services Director has partnered with PATH Water to co brand a HW design bottle as well. Wendy has included a QR code on the HW bottles that bring individuals straight to the school lunch menus. These will be available in January 2023.

From Lynne Nardella, Health Office News

Hi All,

We made it until December. We are now in that busy exciting time of year.

Unfortunately, it is also the busiest time for respiratory viruses.

This year we are seeing an increase in Influenza A and RSV in all age groups. Of course Covid is still around as well. The current variant is causing less severe symptoms but appears to be more contagious.

It is typical for children to have 6 to 8 respiratory or Gastrointestinal viruses per year not all of these require students to stay out of school, but we encourage parents to keep their students home if they are sick!

A Few helpful hints to make it through the winter.

* Keep sick kids home a fever over 100, vomiting diarrhea or a cough that is productive (coughing up phlegm) or causing a wheeze are good reasons to NOT send kids to school.

* Handwashing our kids have gotten very good at this. Encourage your children to wash or use hand sanitizer prior to meals, after trips to the bathroom after coughing or sneezing .

*Cover you coughs and sneezes We try to teach our students to cough and sneeze into their elbows. Reminding them at home can help as well. This will reduce the particles in the air and also keep germs off their hands to reduce the spread that way.

* Don’t share food and drinks. This time of year it is important not to share food or drink to minimize the spread of  not only respiratory viruses, but also mono and strep.

* Keep up to date with your child’s immunizations.

I also want to remind you all that I have Covid tests at my office if any of you need them.

I am so appreciative of all of your help and cooperation as always,

Lynne
