Dates to Remember

Thanksgiving Break, Early Release, 11:15                              Wednesday, November 23

     No lunch served

No School, Happy Thanksgiving!                                            November 24, November 25

From the Principal

Dear Cutler Families,

This past week I was blown away by the incredible Ski, Skate and Board sale put on by Friends of Cutler. This incredible effort is not only a gift to our students, as the funds go directly to supporting their enrichment, it is also a gift to the community. Thank you to Jeannine Ryan for her leadership with this event, and to every parent and community member who gave time, equipment and resources in each of the unique ways that people helped!

I want to take a moment to welcome Patty Olsen and Liza Provencher to the Cutler School staff. Patty will join our Special Education team and will support students across classrooms and grade levels. I would also like to welcome Liza Provencher who is our Library Tech Assistant teaching all of our library classes. She is also teaching at Winthrop School. It is wonderful to have this position filled, and we are especially excited to welcome Liza, as she is enthusiastic and wonderful with our students. She will be training some library volunteers after Thanksgiving. If you are interested in being part of that, please let Mary Cadle know.

On Friday at School Council, Mary Adamik, our Instructional Coach, provided the Council with an overview of CKLA, our new Language Arts curriculum. She brought examples of the resources that we are using in different grade levels, as well as talked about the difference between the Skill and Knowledge strands. Many parents have shared that their children are talking a lot about what they are reading. This map shows the knowledge strands across all grade levels. You will see that many of the topics build from one year to the next, and incorporate aspects of science and social studies. It has been exciting watching our students get so excited about their learning.

Our Cutler Gallery is filled with the 5th grade pumpkins. This year students decorated these within the classrooms and they are on display this week. What a wonderful tradition! Not only was it a great opportunity for parent volunteers to be in the classrooms, it was also impressive that each student approached this STEAM challenge with pride in their work!  Feel free to pop in to see the pumpkins!

Wishing you all a wonderful Thanksgiving. As I reflect on this year, I’m perhaps most grateful to have joined the Cutler community. I couldn’t have landed in a more precious school with amazing staff, supportive families and children who reflect the wonderful community! I hope you all have a restful week filled with the things that rejuvenate you.

Warmly,

Juliana Schneider

From Food Services

There will be no more bagels available as an alternative lunch option starting in December. It is not a substantial lunch option and students are/will be able to choose a sun butter and jelly sandwich or a deli sandwich.

Also, the Food Services Department is looking to be more ecofriendly and has partnered with PATH Water! The cafeteria will be selling these reusable water bottles (SpongeBob and Patrick) for $5. There is even space to put a name on the bottle.

To purchase— checks can be made out to HWRSD, cash or your child can use their lunch code.

Wendy Ng, our Nutrition Services Director has partnered with PATH Water to co brand a HW design bottle as well. Wendy has included a QR code on the HW bottles that bring individuals straight to the school lunch menus. These will be available in January 2023.

Ski Bradford

Ski Bradford is opening up registration to THIRD GRADERS! Deadline to register is Monday, November 28. For more info and to register, visit communityhouse.org/skibradford. For questions, contact ski@communityhouse.org. We will be sending home flyers in 3rd grade backpacks.

COVID Test Distribution:

We will be picking up covid tests on Saturday to be distributed next week to anyone who would like one. These tests are intended for use by students and staff to support the return to school process after Thanksgiving and Winter breaks. DESE recommends tests be used no sooner than 24 hours prior to returning to school after these holiday breaks. We will only be distributing the tests for Thanksgiving next week. We will distribute the rest just before Winter break. School Nurses will be managing the distribution of tests.

Ski, Skate & Board Sale:  Our 11th Ski, Skate & Board event is in the books, and what a weekend it was! We had a great turnout and it was our highest grossing sale to date.  Thank you to all who donated, consigned & shopped, and most importantly those who volunteered their time to help. Thank you to Cutler staff and faculty for providing snacks for our volunteers and volunteering your time.
Special thanks to our event chairs, Jeannine Ryan and Leslie Potter, who always work so hard to make this event such a huge success! After 10 years of involvement with the event, Jeannine will be stepping down as co-chair. Jeannine- Thank you for all you have done for the Cutler community. We are so incredibly grateful for your dedication to the sale and Cutler over the years.

Cutler Staff Snack Cart: As we head into the busy holiday season, the Friends of Cutler hopes to show our thanks to the Cutler faculty and staff with a Thanksgiving themed snack cart on Wednesday, November 23rd. Cutler Families, it would be appreciated if you could contribute to this small gesture of gratitude. Please take a moment to review the items we are requesting!

Donations can be dropped off at 212 Asbury Street in South Hamilton leading up to the 23rd. If it's easier, feel free to drop at the school or send in with your student(s) on the 23rd. Just be sure to label your donation "Teacher's Snack Cart."

In addition to the snack cart, we would love for students to show their gratitude through a small gesture of their own! Please have your child(ren) make signs or pictures of appreciation that will be used to decorate the Cutler Staff lunchroom. These signs should be on 8.5 x 11 paper and should thank the entire staff, not just their teacher. Signs can also be dropped at 212 Asbury Street leading up to the 23rd of November.
