5th Grade Musical

We are so thrilled about the return of the Cutler School 5th grade musical.  Thanks to Mrs. Graham and Ms. Penta for spearheading this production.  We look forward to a performance in June.

Lost and Found

Please encourage your child to check the lost and found.  We have a large collection of winter clothing including boots, snow pants, jackets, gloves, and hats.

MCAS Update

Our ELA MCAS testing has begun and will continue throughout this week with makeups into next week.  We are so proud of the efforts students have shown during testing!  Also, cheers to our entire school community for being respectful and supportive by traveling quietly throughout the building.

April is Autism Awareness Month:

Cutler Community, wear your blue on Tuesday, April 12th to show your school spirit! The Hamilton and Wenham Police Departments are partnering to promote Autism Awareness and they have challenged our students to a district-wide contest. The HWRSD School that shows the most school spirit by WEARING BLUE on the designated days below will win an ice cream social donated by the Hamilton & Wenham Police Departments. Let’s show them our General's support!

Cutler School Principal Update:

Ms. Juliana Schneider has been hired as the new principal of the Cutler School. She will begin her employment on July 1, 2022. Ms. Schneider brings 19 years of elementary experience serving as a classroom teacher, an Assistant Principal, and a Principal. She has a Bachelor's Degree in communication from Simmons College, and a Master's in Elementary Education from Lesley University.  She is currently the Principal of the Merriam School in Acton-Boxborough. Ms. Schneider is a member of the Instructional Leadership Team, School Council, Teacher Council, Curriculum Committee, Child Study Team, and Student Support Team. At the district level, she is a member of the Senior Leadership Team, the District Leadership Team, the District Safety Committee, and the District Technology Committee. We look forward to Juliana joining the HWRSD!

Elementary Literacy Update

Elementary teachers have continued to use professional development time this winter to deepen their understanding of reading instruction. Teachers and administrators have felt that a consistent scope and sequence to follow has been missing, and in response to this, we applied for the Accelerating Literacy Grant from the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education in early January. The purpose of this competitive grant is to bring high-quality core instructional materials needed to accelerate literacy learning into schools. Last week, our district was awarded funding up to $159,260 to purchase literacy core instructional materials for grades K-5. Using the parameters of the grant, our curriculum team narrowed down the options to two programs which we are looking at closely this month. Over twenty teachers have volunteered to pilot our choices of materials, participate in training for the programs, and rate the programs in order to determine which materials will best fit our needs.

Transportation Satisfaction Survey:

If your student rides the bus, please take a minute to fill out a short satisfaction survey linked HERE. We understand that the driver shortage caused delays for many of you this year, but we are hoping to gain a better understanding of parents' overall satisfaction.

Custodians needed:

We are currently in need of several building custodians, mostly on the night shift. If you know of anyone who may be looking for a first or second job at night, please have them email our Director of Maintenance and Operations, Tom Geary at t.geary@hwschools.net
