From the Principal:

Dear Cutler Families,

Happy last week of school!

I wanted to make you all aware of a change for next year that impacts all of you.  We have incorporated all purchasing of school supplies into our ordering process internally, and therefore families will no longer be asked to provide supplies for students returning to school. We are looking forward to this shift and hope it offers much relief when you are planning to come back to school. It allows teachers to mainstream their own supplies and have everything ready to go before the first day. We also hope it eliminates the back to school scramble for families!

As I reflect upon my first year at Cutler I’m incredibly grateful for the families and teachers and the welcome I have received. My goal this year was to learn everything I could about the traditions and the culture of the school and District, and ultimately stabilize the school after coming out of the pandemic and the year (plus) of interim leadership. I’m grateful for the teacher and parent support and all we accomplished.

  • This year we had our Open House back in person!

  • Students went on Field Trips (some for the first time).

  • We hired an additional Special Education teacher in order to increase our ability to bring inclusion into our classrooms.

  • We installed the new playground equipment that all of you raised money for!

  • We brought back All School Meetings on a monthly basis!

  • We introduced the Solstice Stroll, and we are adding a 5th Grade Promotion Ceremony.

  • The 5th grade went to Project Adventure, and performed their 5th grade play!

  • We had some wonderful cultural events supported by our Friends Group, including the recent Cultural Festival.

  • We implemented a new Language Arts curriculum, CKLA!

  • We brought back teacher luncheons for staff relationship building and connection!

There is so much more I could list, and the greatest accomplishment is that our school has stabilized and that our students are learning and growing together at Cutler!

I wish you all a wonderful summer with minimized screen time while you enjoy nature, friends and family!

Warmly,

Juliana

From the Health Office, Nurse Nardella:
Please remember to pick up any medications/EpiPens from the nurse's office before the last day of school.

Lost and Found:
Please ask your children to check Lost and Found, and take all their belongings home.  Anything left will be donated.  We have 'smaller' items in the office: A coach change purse with a few coins in it, a Cal Ripkin baseball, a Verizon cellphone, a bracelet with the initial H, a Harry Potter wand, and a Red Sox 2018 World Champions baseball cap.  If your child is missing any of these items, please have them come to the office to claim them.

From Library Tech:
Accounts for fifth graders will be archived at the end of the school year. Families can download the student journals if they would like to keep their student's work.
Early Release:
Friday is an early release day:  Early Release is at 11:15 am. There is no lunch served on early release days, so you may want to pack a larger snack for your kids.

Each of these positions plays a vital role in the day to day work of Friends of Cutler and towards achieving the organization's goal of supporting and enhancing the educational experience of the students of Cutler Elementary. These positions will work collaboratively with their counterparts to learn and acquire the volunteer responsibilities. Each of these positions holds a 2 year term.
There are also a number of committee chair positions available:

This includes Staff Snack Carts (@3 times a year), staff luncheons (@ 2-3 times a year), cookie swap (1 time a year in December) and creating a stock the staff room sign up. If a luncheon is occurring, help is needed between 12:30-1 for set up.
Gardens and Grounds Committee -Gardens and Grounds volunteers support the maintenance of the Cutler gardens and grounds throughout the year. Expectations for the group consist of offering project ideas for the gardens or grounds and volunteering some time at one or more of the clean ups and planting times that occur in the fall and spring. The committee meets as needed in person or via zoom in the fall and spring.
Movie Night Committee -Movie Night is an event held on the playground in September/October and is always highly anticipated by the students - a super fun time for the whole family! From the Principal:

Dear Cutler Families,

Lynda Richards has been an incredible part of our school community at Cutler for the last eight years. Lynda previously taught at both the Middle School and Buker, and she has supported students at Cutler as a Special Educator. She was amused last week when she was walking with a first grader and he looked up and said to her, “Mrs. Richards, what inspired you to become a teacher?” She has loved every minute of helping children gain confidence and love school, and she says she is ready for retirement as she has a grandchild coming in August and hopes to spend time in nature, camping. We thank Mrs. Richards for all of her service to our students.

Next year, the following teachers will be teaching at each grade level:

Kindergarten: Mindy Drinkwater, Allison Goodchild, Patty Olson

Grade 1: Carey Green, Kelly Gray

Grade 2: Sarah DeCoteau, Emilie Kershaw

Grade 3: Liana Hanson, Rebecca Pinciaro

Grade 4: Nancy Duffy, Grace Valentine

Grade 5: Alicia Anderson, Taylor Purcell-Quarles

Additionally, Jess McCue has taken a position at the Middle School, so she will no longer be teaching here at Cutler. Her contribution to our school, her love of children and her commitment to collaboration on behalf of children is exemplary. We are just grateful that students will get to see her when they finish with us here.

Lynne Nardella, our school nurse, will move into a district position, supporting all of the schools. Lynne has been with us for twenty years, knows every child, and I have been immensely grateful for her support this year. We know that she will be in and out throughout the year, which is also a comfort.

And we wish Lauren Gorse all the best as she, too, continues on to new adventures. Thank you Lauren for a great two years!

Next week, I will plan to share with you more information about our new hires!

Wishing you a wonderful week.

Juliana

HW Friends of the Arts

Annual Meeting:
Come celebrate another fantastic year for HW FOTA! Mix and mingle with FOTA Members, and learn more about what we do. We will have a brief business meeting to review the year and nominate new officers for next year. Curious about FOTA? This is a great way to see what we're all about! HW FOTA will hold our Annual Meeting on Thursday, June 8, 6:30 p.m., at the home of Melissa Keys. Please RSVP via the evite for the address. http://evite.me/fwDFtMK9n3

Melody Miles Recap: As we close out our 2023 Melody Miles fundraiser, we wanted to share a few fun facts: This year we had 293 registrants; that’s 120 more than last year!!! Our oldest runner was 81, and the youngest was 4! We raised over 11k in sponsorships, and when all is said and done we expect our net revenue to be around 16k. That makes this our most profitable race to date, and we are thrilled to be able to give it back to the schools as we fund future grants!

In other news a BIG SHOUT OUT TO Cutler  Elementary School which had the biggest school team registered! In 2nd place was Winthrop, and Miles River Middle School came in 3rd. We loved seeing representation from all of the schools and even had a new team in the HW Mother’s Club this year.
