Dear Cutler Families,


I hope you had a wonderful weekend. Fall is finally here, and it is my favorite season!


This year all three elementary schools are implementing an intervention and enrichment block at each grade level. This is an approximately 40-minute block occurring four times weekly, where students receive targeted learning opportunities based on their needs as evidenced by assessment data. For some, this may include literacy support provided by our literacy TAs or classroom teachers. For others, this may be working in small groups on grade-level material, supported by classroom teachers or teaching assistants. For others, they may be working on extension materials with teacher supervision. At this time, some students may also receive special education services. This block is a time outside of core instruction and therefore children will not be missing any new content instruction. The flexible and fluid groups will be created across grade level classrooms, and students may move between learning spaces during this time. 


We still need a volunteer for our School Council. The School Council is an important working group representing our school. This group is made up of teachers and parents as well as a community member and is responsible for  approving the School Improvement Plan each year. Last year we had some wonderful conversations about teaching and learning and parents involved expressed how much they enjoyed this window into the workings of the school. We meet on Thursdays from 11:35- 12:20 five times throughout the school year. The remaining dates are:   Nov 16, Jan 18, March 7 and May 16. We ask that you are willing to make a two-year commitment. Please reach out to me directly (j.schneider@hwschools.net) should you be interested in joining the School Council.


Lastly, Glenn Dagley, our district information technology technician, has been substituting for our library position. I am in the process of hiring a Library Teacher and hope to be able to introduce this person to everyone in the coming weeks.

*If you have a change in dismissal plans, please send a written note to your child's teacher or email your child's teacher with a cc to Mary Cadle at m.cadle@hwschools.net. Include the date, your child's first and last name, their usual bus number (if applicable), and the planned change.
*If you have an unexpected change in dismissal, please call the office at 978-468-5330, preferably by 1:30 p.m. Teachers do not always check their emails during the school day, so please do not rely on emails if there is an unexpected change in plans.
*It is a good idea with any communication to cc m.cadle@hwschools.net. If you email regarding an absence or any health-related issues, please cc d.budds@hwschools.net as well.

From Our Teachers Without a Homeroom: 

We are trying to wipe down surfaces after classes and could use some extra wipes, as well as tissues.  If you are so inclined to donate to the cause, we would greatly appreciate it!  You can drop them at the office and Mrs. Cadle will get them to us.  Thank you in advance.

Visioning for the Cutler Elementary School Project:
If you would like to be considered to be a member of the Educational Forum Visioning Session, please be sure you can attend the following two dates:

First session: 10/11/23 - 8:00 AM - 3:00 PM - The Educational Forum participants will be focused on the learner. In this full-day session, we will build a shared understanding of child development and consider how teaching, learning, and the learning environment itself can best support the physical, academic, and social-emotional needs of the age group. We will also begin to explore the logistical, academic, and social-emotional impacts of various design enrollments using a series of "what if..." small table conversations.

Second session: 10/18/23 - Noon - 3:00 PM - Participants will use the vision of child development, teaching, and learning we created in our first session to define the ideal learning environment. Participants will identify important space types, program adjacencies, and guiding design principles for the future CES.

If you can attend both dates for the entire time, please sign up here. The location will be at the HS/MS Library. We are also working on an evening visioning session. As soon as we have the details, we will send out the invite.

FAMILY MOVIE NIGHT will be this Friday, October 13th at 6pm!  Please use this updated RSVP form to help us prepare the proper quantities for popcorn, treats & pizza! 

 

We'll have grab 'n go snack bags and water available for each of the kids, and this year we'll have pizza for sale for the whole family so you can forget about the stress of squeezing in dinner beforehand!  Friends of Cutler is asking for a $10 donation per family to help support this incredible community building event.

Cutler's amazing Ski, Skate, and Board consignment event is right around the corner! This year the event will take place on November 18th-19th at Cutler.   

 

Proceeds from the SSB sale directly support the Friends of Cutler and provide monetary funds needed to run our enrichment activities and support our school! 

 

We will need your help to make this event a success! Be on the lookout for volunteer sign ups for setup and day of event support. Below are several ways our Cutler community can get involved and support the event.  

·  DONATE: Donate your gently used items to our sale! If your items value $50+, you are eligible for a pass to our pre-sale! Donations are encouraged and tax-deductible! There is a donation bin set up in the Cutler Gallery for new or gently used winter gear (hats, gloves, jackets, ski pants). Send a few items in with your student or stop by and drop them off! 

·  CONSIGN: Earn money for your previously used equipment. Consignors earn 60% of sales! All items must be tagged prior to drop off.

·  VOLUNTEER: Sign up to help set up the sale organizing and tagging donated inventory with fellow Cutler parents, and join the excitement on the day of supporting shoppers and checking them out at the registers! It's one of the most fun ways to get involved and give back at Cutler!  

·  SHOP: Find great new and gently used equipment and apparel at incredible prices!
