This week's question for kids: Which is better – being invisible or being able to fly?

Dismissal Safety
In order to keep dismissal safe and as speedy as possible during winter weather, students are dismissed to the first four cars in the active queue, then the active line moves forward.  Please stay in your vehicle until you reach one of these spots in line and your student will walk to you.  If you must exit your car to assist your student, please park in a spot. All drivers in the active pick up lines must remain in their vehicles for safety.

In addition, if you are crossing the parking lot to pick up your student, please cross at the top of the driveway. We have had many close calls recently with families cutting between cars to cross while other vehicles are moving forward. This is also slows down the dismissal process as cars stop to allow pedestrians through many times.  Thanks for your help.

Scholastic Book Fair: The book fair is THIS WEEK!  Thank you to all those who signed up to volunteer – please also feel free to just show up when your child has book fair hours!  We are encouraging students to bring cash (in the envelope that was sent home last week) but we welcome parents that are present to swipe their credit cards as well.  Hope to see you at the book fair!

Spirit Day: Friday, February 2nd will be a Cutler Spirit Day!  In honor of Super Bowl LII we welcome students to wear Patriots (or Eagles) gear/colors to school!

Family Game Night:  Get ready for some fun and join Cutler family and friends for a night dedicated to play THIS Friday, February 2. We are expanding the games this year into three different exciting zones with board games in the cafeteria, STEM active challenges in the Gym, and Cutler trivia in the Library. Families will travel through the rooms as a team choosing together which games they want to participate in. Everyone is encouraged to come in their pajamas (grown-ups too!).
This year the event is running as one drop in session from 4:30 - 7:00 so that families can attend during the time that works best for their schedules. Admission is $5 per family at the door (there is no need to pre buy tickets this year) and, to tie into the Scholastic Book fair Paws for Books event, every family is encouraged to bring an item to donate to The Northeast Animal Shelter  to help our four legged friends (A full list of needed items will be sent home in backpacks closer to the event).

If you are interested in volunteering to help on the night, look for a sign-up link from your room parent. Questions can be sent to Martha Hale Farrell: halefarrell@gmail.com

This week's question for kids:  If you could be anyone when you grew up – who would you want to be?

School Safety Drill
Lockdown and fire drills are part of our yearly safety planning and we will practice these procedures throughout the school year. We work closely with both the Hamilton Police and Fire Departments throughout the planning and execution of these drills. The drills provide our public safety officers with valuable experience as well in preparation of any potential crisis. In addition, we talk to students about the various ways that we keep everyone safe at school. One of these ways is to practice different kinds of drills. We share only brief, simple information that is balanced with the reassurance that we all work together to make sure school is a safe environment.

This week, we will hold our annual lockdown drill with all students. The drill will take approximately 20 minutes to complete.  Teachers will make sure students are aware of the upcoming drill. No one will be able to enter or exit the school while the drill takes place. Please contact Jenn Clifford at 978-468-5330 if you have any questions regarding our safety drills.

Cultural Enrichment: The Cultural Enrichment committee was pleased to bring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. to Cutler School TODAY, Monday, January 8th!  The presentation was led by an actor and historian, who narrated and delivered a portrayal of Dr. King’s life that traveled through time, expressed through song, poetry, and powerful oration. Students saw how Dr. King's life and ideas were molded through a commitment to freedom and equality.  The performance enabled students to understand what Dr. King's childhood was like and underscored Dr. King's dedication to knowledge and education. He also highlighted how he became a leader by standing up for what he believed in, tying into our leadership theme for this year.

Thank you to the hard work of the Cultural Enrichment committee for bringing this event to our students!!

Coin-A-Day Challenge (supporting our upcoming Book Fair):  This week we are participating in a Coin-A-Day Challenge to raise money to share books with all of our students.  Last year, Cutler students brought in a total of $1366.37 in loose change!
