This week's question for kids:   If you had to pick only one – would you want to be a great singer or a great dancer?

Report Cards
Students in grades 1-5 will have their first trimester report card released into the Aspen family portal on Friday, December 8. We value report cards as one of our important ways to communicate progress with families.  The students' performance connected to a specific learning standard is evaluated on an academic performance indicator scale, ranging from N (student is not yet demonstrating progress toward the standard), B (student is beginning to progress toward standard), P (student is progressing toward consistent and independent proficiency of the standard) and M (student consistently and independently demonstrates mastery of the standard)

Each child will receive evaluative marks from their classroom teacher in social skills, language arts, mathematics, science and social studies.  Teachers will continue to comment on students' progress in social areas as well as the academic areas in this text box each term.  In addition, specialist teachers will provide marks and comments in each of their respective disciplines. As has been our practice in years past, Kindergarten students will receive their first report cards in at the mid-year mark.

A request from the Learning Commons
We are starting to collect a variety of recycled materials to provision our Makerspace! During this busy holiday season, as you are recycling in your homes, please consider sending in clean small boxes, cardboard tubes, packing materials, elastics, even the plastic screws that hold toys in their packages! You'll be surprised what can be upcycled into engineering parts by our students! Materials can be sent to the front office or learning commons. Thank you!

A message from Mrs. McIlvaine
As the holiday season is approaching, we want to notify families of the Hamilton-Wenham Holiday Assistance Fund.  This confidential program is coordinated by a dedicated community volunteer and is supported by the generous donations of many community members.  The Holiday Assistance Fund has been established to assist Hamilton and Wenham residents and their families who have experienced hardship due to unemployment, illness of a parent or some other unusual circumstance.  Due to limited funds, it is not intended to be a long term assistance program or for families to use repeatedly unless there are extenuating circumstances.  If your family meets the criteria stated above and you would like to request assistance, please contact Dolly McIlvaine, School Counselor,  as soon as possible to discuss this program and eligibility in further detail.  Dolly can be reached at 978-468-8475 or via email at d.mcilvaine@hwschools.net.   Assistance will be in the form of gift cards for winter clothing and/or food or in some instances, gifts of essential clothing such as winter coats, hats, pajamas, socks etc.  Requests for assistance should be made before November 9thth.
If you are interested in making a monetary donation to the program, you may also contact the Dolly McIlvaine for details.

Ski Skate & Board:

Dear Cutler families –

Thank you so much for all of your help in making our Ski Skate and Board event the MOST SUCCESSFUL one to date!  Many hands make light work, and you have proven that once again by sharing your time over these past days and weeks.  Look forward to more details as we wrap up our books – but know that none of this can happen without you.  Thank you for posing fliers, sharing our Facebook page, telling family and friends, for volunteering, for consigning, donating and shopping.  So many happy and wildly impressed customers!  We have no doubt that this event will continue to grow into a valuable, anticipated community service as well as a tremendous fundraiser for Cutler School.  All of the money we raise goes towards providing programs for our children and making Cutler a better place for all!

Many thanks,
The Ski Skate and Board Team

Morning Dropoff
Please keep in mind that our morning drop off line is an active queue; if you would like to say goodbye to your child and get out of the car or watch them walk to their class line, please park in a space in the parking lot. The drop off line needs to move safely and quickly as students exit their cars and make their way to the playground. Please be sure to exit the line as soon as your child is a safe distance from the car. Thank you for your assistance!

Take Time Tuesdays
Beginning in November and continuing for each Tuesday until our December break, our School Counselor, Dolly McIlvaine will be hosting an alternative lunch recess for any student, or staff for that matter…. entitled, “Take Time Tuesdays”This alternative lunch recess activity will take place in the Cutler gymnasium and will be a time for participants to slow down and develop more of a practice of mindfulness, self-calming strategies, and self-reflection.  If students are interested, they may sign up each Tuesday morning in their classroom.  This will be a week to week sign up with no long-term commitment required, however, if a student signs up, he/she must remain with the group for the entire recess period that day.  If students would like to bring in a mat or a blanket on Tuesdays to use during this time, they are welcome to do so, although we will have a few mats available each week for student use.  Please contact Dolly McIlvaine at 978-468-8475 if you have any additional questions.
