The Elementary Instrumental Program is offered to 4th and 5th grade students.  We have had great success with this program, offering group lessons in a variety of instruments, and an elementary ensemble for students with previous musical instruction, and an elementary chorus.

As your child pursues his/her musical education, they will have the opportunity to participate in the Middle School and High School bands and choral groups. The BCW Elementary Ensemble is directed by Michael FerreiraKendall Clark is the director of the BCW Elementary Chorus.

Kids and Company Program

Kids & Company Together for Safety
Parent Forum Night

On Monday, October 2nd from 6:30 –7:30 pm, we will hold a parent forum at the Cutler School in the dining hall to discuss the district's safety curriculum, Kids and Company: Together For Safety.  This is a comprehensive program taught in grades K-2 that provides children with the skills, information, self-confidence, and support necessary to guard against abduction and sexual abuse.  The program takes a positive and constructive approach in helping children respond to various situations and make safe decisions.
Kids and Company has been taught in the district for the past sixteen years.  The forum will provide parents, who are unfamiliar with the program, an overview of the skills that are taught and a chance to view the materials used.
If you have any questions about the program or the forum, please contact Dolly McIlvaine @ 978-468-8475.

Permission Slips
We have a handful of students that need to submit the permission slip for things like: walking field trips, school and public release of photos or videos and transportation plans.   Please check your children's back packs today for this permission slip.  Please email or call Katie Parker if you have any questions.  Thank you!

Ice Breaker Night
Thank you for attending our Ice Breaker Night last week. We were thrilled to visit with nearly every family and to see students sharing their learning environments with all of you. Our hope to build a foundation for a strong home-school partnership begins with this important event. We hope you also had a chance to visit with each other on the playground and enjoy each other's company as well.

Thank you!
A special thank you to our parent volunteers who spent many hours sprucing up our school yard in anticipation of Ice Breaker Night. With renewed energy and enthusiasm, this year's grounds and garden club have worked hard to clean up our entry way and have special plans for the garden plans around the school that will involve our students and families. Thank you again to Meg Brady, Kristen Degnan, Kristine Ellis, Val McCormack, Dalene Lapointe, Wendy Glidden and Leslie Jorgensen!

Mobile Fingerprinting: Event hosted by the Friends of Buker, Cutler, and Winthrop at the Hamilton-Wenham Library THIS Thursday, September 28th.  The service will be available from 8:30am-3:30pm.  You must register in advance to participate!  More information/directions can be found atwww.friendsofcutler.com

As a reminder, all school volunteers must follow through with a CORI screening every three years, located on our parent page of our school website. In addition, volunteers who will be chaperoning field trips or alone with students in any capacity, must be fingerprinted.  At this time, fingerprinting is a one time requirement while CORI screenings are required every three years. Many parents have found it beneficial to go through the fingerprint process as their children enter the school system, as it ensures your availability to participate as a chaperone or volunteer. If you are unsure of your status or have further questions, please contact Katie Parker at k.parker@hwschools.net for clarification.

Icebreaker Night: TONIGHT!
We hope that all families are able to join us tonight between 5-7pm for our Icebreaker Night, an event designed to allow families to meet classroom teachers, visit classrooms, and enjoy ice cream on the playground together. Over the past week, teachers have intentionally sent home their printed materials to fill families in on routines and expectations. We hope you have been able to review this information prior to the night and come with any questions to be answered tonight. Classrooms will open at 5pm, and will be open until all visiting families have been able to come through. Ice cream will be served beginning at about 6pm and teachers will join us on the playground as soon as they are free.

We will be reminding students that school expectations for behavior will apply as they play on the playground during the outside portion of the event. It is helpful if you can reinforce this message with your children. Thanks for your help as we try to keep everyone safe.

As usual, the ice cream is free and provided by the Friends of Cutler. We look forward to seeing all of you soon!

Icebreaker Night
Again this year, we are eagerly anticipating families' attendance at our 'Icebreaker Night' on September 18, an event designed to get families into classrooms, meet teachers, and be able to visit with each other. Over the next week, you can expect to receive information from your classroom teachers about their expectations for the year. We are sharing this information prior to the event so that families can review it and feel comfortable bringing any questions directly to teachers that night. We also want you to meet each teacher and explore where your child(ren) spend their days. We want to be sure to give families enough time to visit classrooms starting at 5pm and will plan to start serving ice cream outside at about 6pm. Teachers will remain in their classrooms until all families have been able to visit, then will head to the playground to greet former students and familiar faces! As usual, the ice cream is free and provided by the Friends of Cutler. We sincerely hope that every family will attend!

Bus Routes
Thank you for your patience as the buses work to regulate their pick-up and drop-off times.  Due to the construction around Cutler School, bus routes have been experiencing some delays and disruptions.

Off and running!

We are off to a very smooth start of the school year. This week helps all of us get used to the schedule as we work through the shortened week. We always anticipate that by next week, all students and adults will be more tired from the rigorous schedule! Please don't hesitate to contact your child's teacher or the front office if you have any lingering start of school questions. We are here to help!

Buses will run a little longer this week as the kindergarten students begin and get used to the routines. Thanks for you for your patience. If you have any concerns about your child's bus route, please contact transportation@hwschools.net so we can resolve the issues quickly.

All students have received a signoff sheet in their mailboxes to be completed by parents. Your signature indicates that you have reviewed the Parent Handbook and Acceptable Use Policy. It also allows (or limits) public release of photos. Please return these forms by September 15.

Don't forget, if your contact information has changed over the summer, please update your contact verification cards which came home in backpacks. Please complete and send back to school as soon as possible so we can be sure all contact information is updated. Lynne Nardella has also sent home emergency medical card information in backpacks for your verification. Please include alternate contact information for family or friends.  It is very important that we have multiple emergency contacts to use in case we can't reach parents directly.

Public Safety Day Press Release

A message about the Bake Sale:
Dear Cutler Families,

We have all seen the horrific events unfolding over the past week in Texas and like all of us, many of you are wondering what we can do to help.  As we continue to work with our students to be caring and compassionate citizens, we will be facilitating two school wide service learning opportunities which we hope you will join us in implementing.

Beginning next week, the teachers will introduce age appropriate lessons about hurricanes and the current effects of Hurricane Harvey.  Following this brief overview, the teachers will introduce the two community service projects outlined below.  Students and families are encouraged to help in any way they are able, however participation is optional.

First, we will be holding a coin drive that will last for the month of September.  Each classroom will have a collection jar and students are encouraged to bring in coins that will be gathered at the end of the month and a check sent to a relief organization that has yet to be determined.

Secondly, we will be holding a community bake sale on Saturday, September 16th from 9:00am – 12:00pm right at Cutler School.    Our 5th graders will be taking a leadership role by manning the tables for the bake sale, however everyone is encouraged to become involved by either baking or buying … or both!!!  In order for this to be successful, we will also need lots of publicity.  Everyone can help by inviting family and friends to come to our event.  We will create a graphic over the next few days that we will be asking for families to share widely via social media.

Baked goods can be dropped off on the Cutler Stage on Friday, September 15th or ideally, brought to the event on Saturday morning. All items should be labeled if they contain nut products and if possible, should be packaged easily for individual sales.
If you have any questions, please contact Dolly McIlvaine at 978-468-8475 or Kristen Degnan at 484-888-8745.

Thank you all in advance for supporting this important service learning opportunity.

Sincerely,

Dolly McIlvaine, School Counselor
Kristen Degnan, Co-President, Friends of Cutler
